The House of Bernarda Alba

In Spain flamenco with a plot is a prestigious art form with a large international audience. Plot is often based on the works of the national poet, Federico Garcia Lorca, who sought inspiration from flamenco.

The House of Bernarda Alba
was the first flamenco dance theatre production performed in Finland and Sweden. It was premiered in November 2001.

Katja Lundén´s and Kaari Martin´s choreography is a fresh interpretation of Lorca´s classic. The House of Bernarda Alba is a story of lovelessness and conflict between freedom and rigid tradition. Music is composed by flamenco´s great innovator, Enrique Morente and his daughter Estrella. The choreography is founded on the classical Spanish flamenco, but has also experimental features.
